van Benthem Jutting (1943, p. 241)
van Benthem Jutting in Engel (1941, p. 10) : Maitlands identification was wrong, it is Scrobicularia plana and 8 is Cardium edule (var rustica).
Joseph Banks in his Journal of the Endeavour noted that Baster interpreted the sea louse upside down. Baster has given a figure of his in Opera succesiva bus has by some unlucky accident mistaken the head to be the tail, and the tail the head, and the ovaria for antennae. (Banks 1768-1771) As Banks text is a transcription we may assume that Banks took Basters books with him on the James Cook s 1768-1771 Endeavour voyage!
According to Damkaer (2002, p. 59) Müller (1785) placed IX and X in Caligus and XI could be a Lernea or a argulid. Baird (1850) thought it was an argulid, based on the text more than on the illustration.
Lunules on antennas seem to be absent, so a Lepeophtheirus is more probable then a Caligus Marco Faasse.
